Kay | 1947 | 17” Acoustic Flat Top Conversion | 1947
- Description
This beautiful old American made beast started life in 1947 as a KAY K-Series Archtop Guitar.
The rock Maple laminated back and sides and solid maple neck with rosewood fretboard are in great shape…. Here is where the story begins.
Luthier Mark Wilson took on the job of immaculately converting this thing to a flat top acoustic guitar with a bear claw Sitka Spruce solid top with Tort binding and a rRosewood bridge. The huge 17” Jumbo body size provides a lot of acoustic depth and volume, but all the vintage classic vibe is still there! Wilkinson open gear tuners are a great upgrade from the originals.
the onboard pickup is a collectable in its own right! This DeArmond (210 model?) sound hole pickup is well known to sound fat, clear and dynamic. This brown cover model is an early manufactured version that dates to around 1951.
this instrument needs to be seen/played to be fully appreciated. Come and check it out in person at Nepean.
