Maton | Magnetone | TB36/6 |1967 | RARE! | Vintage
- Description
In the wake of the Beatles Australian tour in ‘64, Bill May and Co launched Maton Magnetone, the name under which their first electric guitars and amplifiers would be sold (at some point soon after they dropped the Magnetone name and simply branded everything Maton)
The first Magnetone’s were a pretty clear tribute to the Rickenbacker 330, unique in the Maton lineup as there are no other examples of guitars with the design was so heavily borrowed!
Here we have a remarkable well kept and incredibly rare 1967 TB36/6TT triple pickup, 5 knob version with factory tremolo and original machine heads.
This guitars plays great, better than most Ricki’s!
Initially we assumed the MIJ Tremolo was an aftermarket addition, until we found the original brochure for these guitars at the Maton museum web page. The brochure shows this exact Trem factory fitted. (See last photo)
Original tuning keys are still firm, however a player would probably not hesitate to upgrade them. All other hardware/electronics is original and working great.
As always we suggest coming to the store to check out this incredibly playable piece of Australian guitar history for yourself. If you are to far out (or out of state) please reach out for more info and videos.
