To our ears the 1964 “universal” 1758 model is the king of the small format 6BM8 driven amplifiers. A single 12 inch Plessey/Rola speaker driven by a pair of 6BM8 tubes and a sizeable A&R transformer. Light weight, slimline cabinet and of course, beautiful, rich Tremolo on board. Tone for days. ……. What a beaut! Aprox 6watts of EL84 powered Goldentone student amplifier tone. 8” Rola speaker. Built in 1959. A very clean example. Only these very early script logo Goldentone models ran on the now common EL or 6L6 style valves. By 1961 all new designs had moved over to the historically far more unusual 6GW8 and 6DQA, that would become that “Goldentone sound” in models through the 60s and early 70s. This one came from legends st @foundsound_ and was loaned to us by its new owner @mainstreetdesignstudio for “research” purposes.
